7 Infused Water Recipes for Hydration and Dry Mouth Relief

< Back to the article list

Staying hydrated is essential to your overall health. It’s great for digestion and eliminating waste, lubricating your joints, and making nutrients readily available in your body. Ideally, you’d start your day with a tall glass of water and continue guzzling H2O all day long — in a water bottle constantly, before bathroom breaks and meals, and especially during workouts; but let’s be real. Water isn’t exactly the most exciting beverage, so sometimes the struggle to drink it is real, especially when soda, juice, and other more enticing, sugary options are available.

But water doesn’t have to be basic! You can infuse it, kicking it up a notch with fruit, herbs, and even some spices. To get you closer to your #hydrationgoals, Diana Gariglio-Clelland, a Washington-based registered dietician, recommended these fun, flavorful infused water recipes. Each starts with six cups of water as the base, and from there, you add extra ingredients. Choose a recipe that fits within your diet, and enjoy!

Delicious Infused Water Recipes

Lime Tropic:

Like a margarita but with far fewer calories, this infused water would pair well with a taco salad. Or, if you want to splurge, go ahead and drink this alongside chips and guacamole.
Ingredients: 1 cup of pineapple slices, 1 cup of mango chunks, and the juice from 1 lime

Strawberry Kiwi:

Bright and beautiful, the strawberry-kiwi combo will add a dose of summer color to your table. Skip dessert — you won’t need it after a glass of this sweet treat!
Ingredients: 1 cup of strawberry slices and 3 sliced kiwis

Watermelon Mint:

This pairing, which features melon and mint, will transport you to the spa, if only in spirit. It’s the perfect treat for your #SelfCareSunday.
Ingredients: 1 cup of cubed watermelon and 1 pinch of dried mint or about 5 chopped fresh mint leaves

Hawaiian Vacation:

Transport yourself to the Hawaiian shores with this citrus and coconut-rich recipe. Pineapple chunks add an extra bit of sweetness.
Ingredients: 2 sliced oranges, 1 cup of pineapple chunks, and 1 teaspoon of coconut extract

Pineapple Ginger:

This is for all of you sweet and savory lovers. (Ginger is also touted for its ability to help curb nausea.)
Ingredients: 1 cup of pineapple chunks and fresh or ground ginger to taste

Apple Pie:

You can pick your favorite variety of apple — red, yellow, pink, or green — for this crisp, bright combination. Vanilla extract adds a gourmand taste.
Ingredients: 3 sliced apples of your choice, 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Strawberry Basil Lemonade:

This is definitely picture-perfect water! Top a glass with a few extra basil leaves as garnishes.
Ingredients: 1 cup of sliced strawberries, 1/4 cup of lemon juice, and 3 to 4 chopped basil leaves or o1 teaspoon of dried basil

For best results, Gariglio-Clelland suggested preparing your water hours before drinking it, so the flavors have time to steep like tea. If you prefer stronger flavors, all of her recipes can be adjusted to taste.
